The final part of via Nazionale towards the centre of Sestri Levante. One of the busiest streets in my Sestri is definitely via Nazionale. In addition to crossing practically the entire town of Sestri longitudinally, it is the street that hosts the greatest number of businesses and shops. This is its final part, one-way, just before the roundabout of Piazza Sant’Antonio.

The central via Eraldo Fico in Sestri Levante. One of the streets that I often visit in Sestri is the one that my town dedicated to the partisan Virgola, real name Eraldo Fico. My grandparents lived and had their business in this street but then there is the cinema, the post office, the sports shop; you go to the train station and the parking lots on Gromolo. Almost impossible to have ever walked it.

Eraldo Fico, battle name Virgola (Sestri Levante, 13 September 1915 – Cavi di Lavagna, 22 December 1959), was an Italian worker and partisan. Partisan during the Second World War with the pseudonym of “Virgola”, he was among the organizers of the first partisan brigades in Liguria and precisely in the mountains of Tigullio. A couple of glimpses of the village of Trevi in Umbria. Last spring I spent a few days, with my wife, visiting the beautiful region of Umbria. We settled in the Perugia area and visited many of the villages around there. These two shots are of the alleys of the beautiful village of Trevi, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Here is where the village is located:
In the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance it had its best period, characterized by extraordinary trade that favored its economic prosperity (it was called "the dry port"), still testified today by the numerous buildings in the historic center, worthy of appearing in much larger cities, and the economic growth was accompanied by lively cultural and social activity. Already in 1469, to favor the circulation of money a Jewish banker was called, one of the few professions to which those men were authorized, and despite this he was persecuted and later one of the very first Monti di Pietà was erected, followed later by the Monte Frumentario and various other charitable and welfare institutions. The streets of the center of Cadiz in Spain. Walking through the historic center of the beautiful city of Cadiz you walk along these very characteristic streets where the windows almost all have these very protruding wooden frames. And then, normally, the ship docks right in front of the center and in five minutes you are already there!

Here's where the town is located:
It is probably the oldest city founded in the western Mediterranean area by the Phoenicians in the 11th century BC, although its birth is now officially dated back to the end of the 8th century BC. Founded with the original name of Gadir (in Phoenician: Gdr, fortress, with the same etymology as Agadir in Morocco) on what was once a small archipelago and now a single island, to exploit the rich trade routes with the Atlantic Ocean in the copper and tin trade. In ancient Greece it was known as Gadeira and in the times of the Roman Empire as Gades from which the current gentilic name of gaditano derives. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The roundabout on Via Vittorio Veneto in Sestri Levante. This small roundabout that was built not many years ago serves as a connection between Lungomare Giovanni Descalzo and Via Vittorio Veneto.

Two steps in via San Vincenzo in Genoa. Every time I am in Genoa, not by car, I always try to take the train at the Brignole train station on my way back. To get there, after walking along via Venti Settembre, you have to go through this large pedestrian street that is downhill at the point in the photo.

The neighborhood takes its name from the church of the same name, now deconsecrated, dedicated to San Vincenzo di Saragozza. Until the construction of the “Mura Nuove”, in the 17th century, it was a village outside the defensive walls of the city called “Borgo di Bisagno”, because it was located a short distance from the stream of the same name. The houses in via Nazionale in Sestri Levante near the underpass. When I want to go downtown on foot (or by car) from my house, there are three options: either you go through Mandela Park, or via Antica Romana Occidentale, or you go through via Nazionale. Going through via Nazionale, when you are about to arrive in the center, you come across the railway underpass and, immediately after, a series of beautiful colored houses that I tried to emphasize in these photos. This underpass has been there for as long as I can remember, but before, if I'm not mistaken, there was a level crossing with a small pedestrian underpass (always flooded when it rained).

A stretch of Via Orefici in Milan. Via Orefici in Milan is a historic street located in the heart of the city, near Piazza Cordusio. This street is famous for its elegant nineteenth-century buildings and for being an important commercial and financial center. Among the activities present, there are luxury shops, offices and refined restaurants. The strategic position of Via Orefici makes it a point of reference for those visiting Milan, offering a perfect mix of history, culture and modernity.

Via del Prione ovvero il caruggio della Spezia. The centre of La Spezia is crossed, for almost its entirety, by this pedestrian street called Via del Prione. For us Ligurians this type of street is called caruggio (even if it is slightly wider than normal, the caruggi are just a little less bright); in other regions it is called via dello struscio or dello shopping.

The territory of La Spezia was already inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the numerous stele statues and the finds from the Bronze and Iron Ages found on various occasions on the heights of the Gulf and the adjacent valleys. Later, in historical times, the territory saw the settlement of the Ligurian populations, subdued in 155 BC by the consul Marco Claudio Marcello. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia
