The Tower of São Vicente or, more commonly, the Tower of Belém (Portuguese: torre de Belém) is a fortified tower located in Lisbon. The tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its role in the Age of Discovery, when it served as both a fortress and a port from which Portuguese explorers set out on the first European trade routes to China and India.
