Another splendid stately building in the very central Via Venti Settembre (XX Settembre) in Genoa.
Unfortunately I can't tell you much about these buildings which certainly have a history behind them.

What is September 20, the date of the XX Settembre streets? On that day, in 1870, the Italian army took Rome after the breach of Porta Pia: it was the end of the Papal State.

Un palazzo di via Venti Settembre a Genova.
Ancora una foto di Genova e di un bel palazzo in via Venti Settembre scattata qualche settimana fa mentre ero ancora a casa..
La particolarità qui sono le statue che reccono i contrafforti della facciata.
Purtroppo non so dirvi molto di più, godetevi la foto!

I portici di via XX

I portici di via XX.
Genova, oltre ai famosi vicoli, ha una delle vie piu’ belle per fare una passeggiata. Si trova proprio in centro e si chiama via Venti Settembre.
I portici sono, in alcuni punti, veramente suggestivi. In questo punto, ad esempio, da un lato c’e’ il contrasto tra i marmi bianchi e verdi (tipici della Liguria) e dall’altro uno splendido palazzo “nobiliare”.
Tutto proprio in centro, a pochi metri da piazza De Ferrari.

Il motto di Genova in via XX Settembre

Il motto di Genova in via XX Settembre.
Passeggiando in via XX Settembre a Genova mi sono imbattuto in questa scritta in latino, situata sopra una delle tante volte in marmo.
Griphus ut has angit, sic hostes Ianua frangit. Traduzione: Come il grifone artiglia queste, così Genova distrugge i nemici.
Cercando su internet il significato della scritta ho scoperto che e’ uno dei motti piu’ antichi della Superba.
C’e’ anche una effigie del grifone che artiglia una aquila ed una volpe.

Il ponte Monumentale di Genova

Il ponte Monumentale di Genova.
Passando nella strada principale del centro di Genova, via Venti Settembre, non si puo’ non vedere il Grande ponte, detto appunto Monumentale, che piu’ o meno a meta’ incrocia la via.
Questa foto l’ho scattata un paio di settimane fa passeggiando per il centro e mi sembra un bello scatto.

Il Ponte detto Monumentale si impone sullo stesso luogo dove era la Porta dell’Arco, delle mura del XVI secolo, le cosiddette “Mura Nuove”. Il suo ruolo è, come lo era stato quello della porta dell’Arco, di collegare due sistemi di viabilità, uno inferiore (via XX Settembre), ed uno superiore (corso Podestà).

L’arteria principale del centro di Genova, via Venti Settembre (via XX) di prima mattina.
Veramente prima mattina non è proprio perché ho scattato la foto attorno alle otto e mezza.

Via XX Settembre è una delle principali arterie viarie del centro di Genova all’interno del quartiere genovese di San Vincenzo, della lunghezza di poco inferiore al chilometro.

Where is Via XX located:

Via Venti Settembre is one of the main roads in the centre of Genoa within the Genoese district of San Vincenzo, just under a kilometre long. It runs in an east-west direction and, together with Corso Italia – the promenade that runs along the seafront – is one of the favourite places for strolls by the Genoese. It crosses the two central districts of Portoria (first section, portico, from Piazza De Ferrari to Ponte Monumentale) and San Vincenzo (from Ponte Monumentale to the outlet on Via Cadorna near Piazza della Vittoria.
