Archetti tra palazzi in un vicolo di Finalborgo.
Passeggiando tra il borgo del Ponente ligure e le sue vie caratteristiche.
A vedere bene, in queste due foto, sottolineo la bellezza degli archi (archetti) che collegano palazzi vicini.

The town was developed in the Finalese hinterland, not directly on the sea to be more protected against possible Saracen landings on the coast, in an easily defensible place: the confluence of the Aquila torrent with the Pora torrent, whose riverbeds form a single natural moat, later reinforced by the city walls, which defended the town on the east-south-west sides, while the northern side of the town was naturally protected by the spur of the Becchignolo hill.

Strolling in Chiavari among the alleys and porticos of the historic centre.
This is just one of the many in via Rivarola, the alley parallel to the main one in the town.

Un vicolo del bel borgo ligure di Lerici.
Questo splendido borgo dell’estremo Levante Ligure ha tra le strette creuze che portano al castello un dedalo nel quale fa proprio piacere perdersi.
Nonostante la giornata non fosse molto soleggiata i colori tipici delle case marinare liguri ed i mattoni delle creuze regalano scorci veramente indimenticabili!

It was with the Republic of Genoa that Lerici began to assume a more important role.
After having purchased Porto Venere and made it a strategic base for the control of the gulf of La Spezia, Genoa also came into possession of Lerici, negotiating with the Lords of Vezzano and Arcola, who were the feudal lords of the locality.

Vicoli ed archi di Borgio Verezzi.
Camminando tra le stratte vie e carruggi del borgo di Verezzi, in provincia di Savona, ci si può perdere con la fantasia e con la bellezza dei particolari.
Il borgo in sé non è molto grande ma forse è proprio questa la sua bellezza.
Guardate questo violetto con gli archi, visti in molti borghi storici come Finalborgo ma anche a Varese Ligure e Chiavari, che uniscono le case.

The municipal territory is made up of the two hamlets of Borgio (municipal seat) and Verezzi and the Verezzi nuclei of Crosa, Piazza, Poggio and Roccaro for a territorial surface of 2.73 km².
It borders to the north with the municipalities of Tovo San Giacomo and Finale Ligure, to the south with the Ligurian Sea, to the west with Pietra Ligure, to the east with Finale Ligure.

Through the white streets of Ostuni.
Walking through the streets of the historic center of Ostuni, the famous White City, every corner seems like a painting.
It will be the whitewash of the walls, it will be the narrow alleys, it will be the curved streets.
A spectacle for today's tourists, a need for the inhabitants of the past.

The most peculiar feature of the historic center, which so fascinated tourists, was the whitewashing of the houses up to the roofs. The use, attested since the Middle Ages, derives, in addition to the easy availability of lime as a raw material, from the need to ensure the narrow streets and narrow spaces of medieval layout greater brightness, given by both direct and reflected light.

I vicoli e gli archi di Varese Ligure

I vicoli e gli archi di Varese Ligure.
Dopo la piazza Fieschi, che è subito a sinistra rispetto a questa foto, questo è uno degli scorci che preferisco del Borgorotondo.
Mi piacciono moltissimo gli archi rampanti tra una casa e l’altra e, a dire la verità, non ne ho mai compreso il significato (se hanno un utilizzo estetico oppure strutturale).
Forse ho già scattato una foto molto simile qualche anno fa ma questa è sicuramente più bella di colori e angolo visivo.

Commissioned by the Fieschi family for the control and defence of the Varese area, it is made up of identical stone houses arranged along the perimeter which, with an elliptical shape, enclose the two main squares (Piazza Fieschi and Piazza Castello), where the commercial activities, warehouses and laboratories were located in the porticoes below.

La piazzetta intitolata alla Meloria a Finalborgo

La piazzetta intitolata alla Meloria a Finalborgo.
Uno dei borghi più belli d’Italia è in provincia di Savona e si chiama Finalborgo (frazione di Finale Ligure).
Questa è una delle molte piazzette della cittadina ma la particolarità è l’andamento ondeggiante del vicolo e dei palazzi.
Stavo cercando qualcosa su Meloria, per capire se era un nome conosciuto e ho scoperto che è anche il nome di una secca, nel mare tra Liguria e Toscana, in cui ci fu anche una famosa battaglia del 1284 nella quale Genova travolse Pisa.

The Battle of Meloria was a historic naval battle involving the fleet of the Republic of Genoa and that of the Maritime Republic of Pisa. The battle, which took place on August 6, 1284 off the coast of Porto Pisano, greatly weakened the Pisan naval fleet, beginning the slow decline of Pisa as a maritime power in Italy during the Middle Ages.

A glimpse of Verezzi, the famous Ligurian village.
After a long time that I had promised myself to visit some town of Western Liguria, some time ago I finally managed to organize a Sunday.
In addition to Finale Ligure, with friends, we went to see the small village of Verezzi (which together with Borgio create the famous town); its narrow streets, closed between the stone houses and the sea a short distance away.
Now I understand why many consider it one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Da qualche parte nei vicoli di Genova

Da qualche parte nei vicoli di Genova.
L’incontro di tre vicoli del centro storico: via San Luca (il vicolo da cui provengo e che ho alle spalle), via San Siro a destra e via di Fossatello che prosegue.
Un bel palazzo al centro dell’incrocio che non è una piazza (o comunque non sono riuscito a trovarne il nome).
Anche questa è Genova, Zena, e probabilmente è la più vera.

Una creuza sull’Isola di Sestri Levante

Una creuza sull’Isola di Sestri Levante.
Una viuzza tipica della Liguria, una creuza appunto, fatta di mattoni al centro e pietre rotonde ai lati.
Qui siamo sull’Isola di Sestri (che poi è una Penisola) e precisamente in via Cittadella forse la meno nota delle tra stradine che salgono fino ai Castelli di Sestri.
