A votive shrine at the entrance to the Rocca Park in Chiavari.
At the entrance to the gate that allows you to enter the garden and park of Villa Rocca there is this beautiful icon in this shrine that seems very ancient.

Where is this votive shrine located:

Palazzo Rocca is a museum complex in Chiavari, located in via Costaguta. The building is located in the immediate vicinity of the historic “piazza delle Carrozze” in the historic center, named after Giacomo Matteotti, entirely surrounded by the prized Rocca Botanical Park. The local archaeological museum is located in the old stables and, on the floors, the civic gallery.

Some bamboo canes in Villa Rocca in Chiavari.
With all the connections I have with Asia (and Vietnam in particular) you will say that I took this photo on one of my trips to the East, but no.
This dense, although not very large, forest of bamboo canes is right near where I live and forms the border to the park of Villa Rocca in Chiavari.

Most bamboo species are native to Asia (where they reach the northern limit of their range at 50° N latitude) and America (where they reach 47° S in Chile). They can be found at variable altitudes, up to 3000 m in the Himalayas. Some species are spontaneous in Africa (particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar) and in Oceania. There are no spontaneous species in Europe.

Matteotti square from the Villa Rocca park in Chiavari.
One of the most classic views of Piazza Matteotti, one of the main ones in Chiavari, is from the belvedere that leads to the Villa Rocca park.
Unfortunately I didn't have a telephoto lens with me but only a wide angle so the quality suffered slightly.
I think it was a nice shot anyway!

Chiavari vista dal Parco Rocca.
Qualche tempo fa sono stato a visitare il Parco Rocca a Chiavari.
Camminando lungo le aiuole e le fontanelle ho trovato questo scorcio: la vasca con le tartarughe in basso (se guardate bene la foto se ne vede persino una), lex Chiesa di San Francesco (ora Auditorium), piazza Matteotti e in fondo Corso Garibaldi.

The steps of the Villa Rocca Park from above.
A few months ago I posted a couple of photos of this staircase taken from below.
This one is the same element taken from above.
I like the lines of the double staircase and also the cobblestone pavement of the space at the bottom of the descent.

The connection between the garden and the park was created at the time of the extension, through a monumental staircase equipped with a nymphaeum placed on the axis of the palace at the entrance from via Costaguta. On the basis of historical documents it is clear that this space constituted the original garden, while the hill above was cultivated.

Monumental staircase of the Botanical Park of Palazzo Rocca.
After many years of thinking about it, I finally managed to visit the Villa Rocca Park in Chiavari.
It is probably the most important closed park in Eastern Tigullio and together with Palazzo Rocca they constitute a beautiful example of a noble villa.
The park itself, even though there is an entrance fee (1 euro per person), did not particularly excite me.
The monumental staircase that took the visitor to see the lakes and caves of the park (which is currently not passable) was perhaps the most beautiful element to photograph.
The view of the square in front is also splendid as you go up and I will demonstrate this to you in a later post.
