La cittadina si sviluppa nella piana alluvionale sinistra del fiume Entella lungo la costa della Riviera ligure di levante, nel Tigullio orientale. Ubicato ad est di Genova, l’odierno abitato si sviluppa, oltre allo storico insediamento medievale, lungo il suo entroterra chiuso a monte da una serie di colline coltivate prevalentemente ad uliveti.
